RECOMMENDATIONS I got a record sent to me by the solo-debutant Mats Grönmark (earlier in Burek V) that I thought I should review. After a few spins I realized it could just as well be sorted under "Recommendations" which it now does. I am not too familiar with contemporary music. The last time I went on a longer car journey with my friends I got criticisied for my mixed- cd´s. They either had "too much violin" or "no songs were recorded after 1971", most of them actually was recorded before 1963. If am not too down with new music in general and I am probably even less familiar with new good swedish music. Therefore it was with great joy I discovered what a great album Tape Hiss Hit or Miss and Sometimes Even Bliss is. It is well-played americana with some untipped variations from other genres. Sometimes you think of Neil Young, then it all drags towards a more lo-fi electric music and then it gets a bit more funky like a Ben Harper with an appalachian vocal or something. Varied, well-played,swinging and good! I know that not many of you snotty kids buy records anymore but if you were thinking of allowing yourself that bit of luxury why don´t you spend it on a swedish-produced quality record? Pour a big glass of ice-tea, sit yourselves down on your porch (or balcony might be more likely) put on Tape Hiss Hit or Miss and Sometimes Even Bliss and just relish. You have to just relish sometimes too. Magnus Gyllenberg GIFTORM, SWEDISH SKATEBOARD MAGAZINE
